Posting Comments

My apologies to all who have tried to comment ... probably not too many, but I do know that there are at least three who have tried.

When I set the blog up, I thought it would be good to block anonymous comments ... I've been around way too many public sites that get hammered by anonymous posts. What I didn't realize was that the setting would also block unregistered users from posting.

That has been fixed. From now on, anyone may make a comment. We do want to hear from you.

Another New Day

It's great to be back on my bike. It's been a while ... after last week's rides, we went camping last weekend and I didn't get on the bike. And then this week in Orchard Park was rainy -- I know I may have to ride in the rain this summer, but I'm not quite in the mood to do it just to get in a training ride.

Pastor Todd & I rode about 19 miles together -- went to Bert's Bikes to check out some stuff.

As of today, we've raised just over $300 for Roswell. It's great to be a part of the success that is Roswell Park Cancer Institute -- also great to be investing in such an important research issue.

I'm currently trying to talk to churches along our ADK bike trip route so that we can camp in the church yards while we travel. I've confirmed our stay at one of the churches and hope to confirm the others in the coming week.

On Wednesday, I fitted my bike with rear panniers. Pastor Todd was good enough to share from his stock of racks & bags. Last summer, he did a trip with his son and his son's friend all the way to Acadia National Park in Maine (from Orchard Park); a little over 600 miles. I'll start loading up the panniers during my rides over the coming weeks to get used to riding with some weight.

First day back...

Today was the first day back in the saddle for a week because I was on tour with the AF band. I think I found the only "hill" in Kettering today, on Indian Ripple.

This was the first day, also, with my less-modest bike shorts, and the new shirt Ray sent me. I felt very comfortable. I guess I shouldn't have made fun of Matt Mooney and Doug Cole all those years ago. Sorry guys, I wish I had these shorts in high school.

I at least looked good, and the white shoes made me look fast. ;)

I had a good ride

I had a good ride this morning. I biked from home to my parents' home about 17.5 miles away ... And then back ... All by 10:00AM.

I continue to receive inspiration from our friend Dan Richbart. He began his trip today, except he left Oregon and is heading for Maine. Our 300+ miles don't seem like too many. Our thoughts and prayers are with him. Go Dan!

Boston Training Ride

Today's ride doesn't look so bad on the map below ... I started and ended at home. However, the ride was with a constant 25 mph wind and the ride involved two serious climbs — one somewhere between a 5-7% grade. I beat the rain that poured down after I got home ... but with this ride, I feel a whole lot more confident about the ride that is coming in July.

Thoughts on Friday

I've just returned from a funeral for a great man of God. Jim was a dear friend to anyone who knew him -- and the Lord took him home last week (way too soon for all of us, but in His perfect time). This doesn't affect our ADK journey at all, but it is what is on my mind tonight.

This week was busy, but I've managed to begin my training rides. I know it's important to get on the bike often, but it's tough to get up in the mornings when the bed is warm and outside is cool and rainy. Mary did just remind me that I could have ridden this morning (it was sunny & dry).

Oh well ... one day at a time ... and, Lord, thanks for the time we had with Jim.

This is just a test post for the new blog.
